2.5 diesel computer remplacement
« on: 20 February 2009, 12:43:11 »

Hello everyone, im new here, i have a 2.5  omega 94 turbo diesel 2.5 with the bmw engine. the display on the computer was defective so i tried to repair it, oops cracked the glass, killed it!  now im offered a donor vechicle same engine and year but not as high spec, the computer looks different, two screens instead of one big one,

HERE IS THE BIG QUESTION... are the displays interchangable? :( can i fit the two screen one to replace the original single (yellow display) and what is the twin display like? the donor has a flat battery so unitll i get it towed home to strip i have no idear, but at the price im paying...he he, im not loosing out, as you would pay more for the tow bar.!!!  ;) Oh and since having three Carltons im absolutly in love with the omegas... they can bury me in one... :D  Colin.

Sounds like you may have picked up a TID or a half height MID, as they both look as though there dual screen but only the top half is the screen, The TID should work if the yellow plug fits in, but you'll only get Time, Date and Radio info. As far as I know the Half Height MID's only work with some Radios ie CR700.

Best to get a like for like one from the same model, ie, Engine, Tyre,  Gearbox type etc, and fit that.

Or get the same type MID and get it reprogrammed with a Tech 2 (a few guys on here have them).

Only 2 display types on pre 1998 Omegas - MID (full height with fuel computer functions) and TID (height height, only shows radio, temp, and time).

Both are prone to missing vertical lines on the display, something that doesn't affect post 1998 cars.  Sadly the earlier and later MIDs are not easily interchangable.

hello again, Thanke for the info,  :D  well then it seems i need a mid not a tid, but the spare car will give me loads of other bits, not least a replacement pilot injector... yes im runing on limp mode !!! ::) amazing way to save fuel, car drives fine but without the full boost power. i can drive at any speed but just takes longer to get to any particular speed. i think they should have fitted a switch to enable drivers to be able to switch to economy mode by dissing the pilot injector  :y, im getting 43 mpg on mixed runs what think you ?  anyway anybody want to swap a working tid for a working mid? I have fitted a kenwood radio so the tid will not be able to display anything other than temp...

what would re mapping do to performance and fuel economy? andone aou there got the kit? :-?

With the display unit removed, make a note of the Vx part number and also the colour of the multi connector.

Got mine from Rowcliffes Taunton (Vx dealers).
It was from their 'Trade Cash Sales' - phone 01823 250400
Mine cost 39 quid-odd instead of the list price of £128, (both plus VAT). Postage was around £7, and arrived the following day.
