clutch replacement on a 2.5TD

Well it looks as though the chip on my omega has made mince meat of the clutch on my omega and now its' slipping.

Question is,

1. Can it be done without taking the engine out?

2. Where can i get one at reasonable price?

Thanks for the quick respone guys, I did do a search but must have missed the how too guide. As I live in back water town where every motor factors shuts at 12, anyone got a rough idea on price? Thankfully I have a pit, reckon it could be done in a day?

The car doesn't use any oil but It does use small amount of coolant but i've never been able to find where it is thats leaking. Is it common for these engines to leak coolant onto the box and thus the clutch?

Clutch kit £177 on TC. Coolant loss, probably HBV at rear of engine :y
Couple of blokes about 3-4 hrs. If doing it yourself take a leisurely day :)

Bear in mind this is probably the newset car ive ever owned!!!

TC = Trade Card (You are an ABS member!)
HBV = Heater Bypass Valve

TC; Trade Club. Haven`t you got one being as you`re an ABS member (gives trade discounts at VX dealers). HBV; Heater Bypass Valve, lives at rear of engine, controls flow to heater matrix. Black plastic gubbins renowned for leaking :)

on the 2.5tdit sits between the engine and the fuel filter a black thing with three coolant pipes and a vacum pipe on top. on mine it only leaked at very high revs then you could see the water coming out

Cheers guys, just about the ring vauxhaull now. I completly forgot about the club card. I haven't used it on over a year!!

Many thanks for replies, the car is a pre facelift. I wonder if it's the heater bypass valve thats made is slip rather than the extra power the chip is shoving in!

Sorry to bring up and older thread, but did you ever get this clutch change done Matt? I am in the very same position now - has  been slipping for about 6 months and now slips continuously.

I have been looking around but getting quite varied quotes for the parts from £130 to £230!

I haven't yet, iv just been taking my time! Moneys tight so im hangin on until i have to sort it. I've managed to get a clutch from vauxhall fro 177 with club trade, just haven't picked it up yet. Thats the uprated 3.0V6 clutch which you will need if your running the chip like I am. MOT is due in April so im just gona take a few days of work then and sort it all etc etc.

Ah OK, well from what I have seen I am not sure what is different with the 3.0 V6 clutch in comparison to the TD clutch? They appear to be the same diameter, and not being much of a clutch buff - I am not sure what other differences there would be? Stronger spring in the pressure plate?

I don't want to bust out a load of money on the wrong thing tbh.
