ABS Light on
« on: 28 February 2009, 11:00:19 »

Hey all.  my bro has a pre facelift omega,  he called round yesterday with a problem,  he said he had cleaned his wheels on his mig,  and since then his abs light has been on constant.  there is no eml faults and nothing up on paperclip test.  im looking for a way to clear this as mot is due very soon.

Check/clean abs sensors on front n/s and o/s.  If its not sensors could be start of abs ecu packing up - abs + tc lights on, no speedo, lack of power steering.  Hope its not the ecu as thats a swine to fix.

yes it is i have just done mine as i have the same snag!!!!!

the front ones wouldnt budge. back one came out dead easy. back ones were gopping front ones not to bad.

well my light still hasnt gone out even jet washed the underside of the car cos the back end was gopping, i was hoping it was the dirt causing the problem.

i have the mot booked for sat at 10am and i need to get the ABS light to extingusih or its going to fail.  :'( :'( :'(

the light is on constand on mine when it does go out you can hear the ABS clicking on the passenger side and feel it under foot. then the light comes back on. i must admit the light is 99% on all the time now :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

i just need to get the car through its mot and then next month ill look at sending the ABS unit away to be check but i just dont have the pennies this month! :'( :'( :'( :'(

How about as quick fix for the MOT, take the bulb out.
The car needs a chat with a Tech2 to diagnose the fault properly and I'm not sure wether the ABS fault will need clearing with Tech2 or cheapo before the light will extinguish even after you've fixed it.

Not sure how relevant this is on the omega, but I had the same problem on a Primera, and it was solved by replacing the discs and pads....

On the 2.5V6 Estate swapped abs ecu and lights immediately went out when first fired up - before the swap they were on continuously.

See that is what i was thinking.

the way i see it is i have 2 options for sat

option one: tell the bloke who is doing the MOT and hope he passes the car with the light on. (my mates was on all the time and hers passed the mot as it wasnt affecting the braking) he may even stick the code reader on for me to clear/ confirm the fault.

option 2: remove the bulb on friday afternoon when i get back from cornwall and hope he doenst notice that it dont come on.

choices choices.... :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/

oh sorry for hijacking your thread big sye. :-X

Hi Marie

I should flip a coin re the 2 options - the place that does my MOTs check that abs light is on with ignition and goes off on starting!!

If I were you I think I would chance taking bulb out ;)

recently had a computer attached to check for any codes, it has come up with Code C0040 Front Right Wheel Sensor - Open Circuit.

seems to be only available from Vauxhall Direct @ £90 + vat

anyone know of any second hand or easier option to sort.
