Improving the Breed
« on: 09 March 2009, 18:30:50 »

Hello All

I have now had my wagon for a month now and really like it, but would love to make four upgrades.  I though have just been made redundant .......   :'( so at least I have the time.  This should give you some creative thought as the aim is to go for these as cheap as possible...

The car is a 53 plate 2.2 petrol GLS manual so in no particular order.

1. Interior rear lights, there are no lights in the rear passenger compartment except for the puddle lights in the doors.  There are only blanks in the rear hand grabs over the rear doors (WHY!!!) Anyways is it a simple as nipping down a scrappers getting two appropriate lights and fixing them into a hopefully existing wiring loom?
If not then could I look at actually tapping into the wiring for the front interior lights, running a feed into the rear and fitting a spare from the scrappers front interior unit into the rear, would be a nice set up like modern cars....

2. Rear parking sensors, is a cheap retro fit item from Halfords powered off the ciggy lighter the best bet?

3. Cruise control, is the wiring loom already there (its a big hope but I may just be lucky?) If not how big is the wiring job, I have wired car stereos before.......

4. Double DIN head units, I just have the standard rent a corsa CD player, what double DIN unit would you guys fit, with SAT NAV if poss.  Wiring it does not bother me as I do have a load of experince doing radios in cars..... :o

1) not sure about loom - easy to check.
2) generally fed from reverse lights, cheap ones suffer more false alarms, esp if not kept clean
3) all it needs is the stalk (and possibly clutch switch on manuals), but will need to be enabled in ECU via Tech2
4) NCDC201x are the factory fit satnavs, though you'll need to change the screen as well. If you go down this route, do your research around security coding
