Over Fueling, 2.0Ltr Ecotec
« on: 08 March 2009, 12:37:06 »

 :-[

Anybody know about Over Fueling , My 1996 2.0Ltr Ecotec 16V Omega has just failed the MOT on Emmissions.

It has been standing for a couple of years, CO 7.42, HC 355, Lambda 0.82, this is far too rich for some reason ??

Lambda sensor has been replaced but this is something much bigger I think, maybe the fuel injectors ?? Its something that gives it Plenty of Fuel, like you have pulled out the Choke, ( The Old boys will know what I`m talking about )

That could be your answer. Did you give it a motorway thrashing before the MOT to clear the crap :) Works wonders, so I`ve been told ::) ::)

I AM tempted to do that Just so I get my Monies worth out of the thing!!
Problem is that, as I understand it, if you run rich on a car with a Catalizer then U are Likley to Stuff the Cat, SO i`m between a Rock & A Hard place, risk stuffing the Cat, and cost more expence  :-/

Could be the Coolant Temp Sensor, if it's giving the wrong reading the ECU will think the engine is cold and run it's 'fuel enrichment program' aka Choke!

Good point VXL. :y If it fails it can prevent the ECU from going into closed loop. This will result in a rich fuel mixture, excessive fuel consumption and elevated carbon monoxide (CO) emissions - which may cause the vehicle to fail an emissions test. Which reading the OP could well be the problem

GOod points, NOw I am confused,
From TopBuzz,  fault_codes.pdf I found that pins 5&6 should be connected with the engine runnning.
SO I can try this also, do you think I can harm the ECU by trying different pins ??
 8-)
