drivers door wont open
« on: 20 March 2009, 16:17:35 »

The drivers door has decided not to open when using the door handle, the inside door handle was a little stiffer to open this morning and I never thought anything about it but when i tried to get out the handle had no resistance and it was the same using the outside handle!

The door is stuck closed at the moment! Central locking is working fine and the key lock is also ok.

How do I get the door to release if I cant open the door to remove door lining? :(

worth a try mate but push against the door from the outside while you pull the handle just to take a bit of pressure of the catch
may be worth a try

failing that if you can get the inside handle cover off the inside which i'm sure you can and grab the bar and give it a good pull to try and release the door that way

hope it works mate

as soon as you get the door open get the door card off and spray it all with wd40

Sounds very much like the plastic T clip has come off/broken away from the wire operating rods on the handle mechanism. I had similar problem about a year ago. Carefully eased the rubber seal up and away from the top of the door card, and pop off the red plastic cover on the lock button. This gave me enough room to GENTLY ease the top of the card away from the door slip my had in and release the lock. Once the door was open, removed the card and saw the problem - Tclip had broken and was not connecting the 2 rods. Quick trip to the scrappy and pinched one. :y :y :y

Thanks for the tip Largecol, it definatly looks as if something has become detatched/broken. I will have a go at what you suggested.

This is a great Forum and its the first place to look for great advise.

Cheers folks. :y

I have managed to ease off the top off the door card, I can feel and see the end of the inner door handle release rod! the gap at the end of the release rod is very small and I can only get 3 fingers into it! I can feel what appears to be a broken piece of plastic at where the rod should be, I can move this part anticlockwise but gets to a point that i cant move it any further. Is this the door release? And how do I release the door mechanism.

I have managed to connect the inner handle rod to the release mechanism but it still wont release the latch!

I notice that when I lock the car with key or remote the dead lock is not activating. Can the dead lock be over-ridden?

I dont wont to ruin the door card to get access if its a fault with the dead lock. :-/ HELP

Hi mate, if the lock mech is slightly seized it might just be THAT is whats causing the deadlock prob? But would most likely fail in the open position, cos drivers lock faults tend to not allow deadlocking, and pop the other buttons up. When you operate the key can you feel any resistance, and does it feel like its trying to lock or is it sticking? You should still be able to release the the mech with your hand by pushing the lug down. Might be worth a quick squirt with some wd40 (or plusgas - as recommended by certain oofers  ;))! :y

Key feels as normal and is not sticking, I have reconnected the inside rod mechanism to the inside handle, outside handle mechinism is still connected and I can now get access to the latch from inside the door BUT STILL NOT RELEASING!!! Is it possible to manually force the keeper open?? :-?

I had a similar issue earlier today while swapping over front and rear handles.

Try pulling the lock rod up (perhaps use pliers) and then try again to open.  Sometimes its a bit stiff.
