Wet carpet...
« on: 15 March 2009, 22:19:20 »

Hi all, pretty new to the forum but Miggy owner for nearly 4 years.   8-)

I have a niggling problem with my ex-plod 3.0 saloon, the rear drivers-side passenger footwell is sodden.  If I park the car pointing up on our inclined drive (we have 5 cars so this one doesn't get the chance much) the water pours out from the hole in the floor under the footwell.  It's that wet.

I think it's after rain but it's been wet for so long now I can't be sure.  I read a similar post on here and somone mentioned the drain holes in the engine bay...?

Oh and the heater doesn't give any hot air at all...

check scuttle drain isn't blocked (scuttle drain is where pollen filter is)

Also, possibly door seal.

Car parked uphill on the drive....

Would be happy to bet the water is draining under the carpet from the front and pooling in the rear footwell....   ;)

Mine got into the rear as well, when the scuttle drain hole was blocked.
Must have been when driving uphill or as in your case parking uphill.
Check out the maintenance section, there is an explanation on where and how to fix Scuttle drain blockage.

Thanks for the replies guys, I maybe should have been a little clearer.  The car is parked 99.9% of the time on level ground, only very occasionally when I have to work on it, does it get onto the drive (only room for one car). Then it pours out from underneith.

I'll have a look at the scuttle tomorrow.  I have to say though, I spotted earlier what look like a crack in the sealant(?) on the roof channel above the drivers side rear door...maybe my track time at Marham (read: drifting) has caused the body to flex, cracking at the top... Just re-read initial post...  Rear DRIVERS side.  Unlikely to be skuttle (but always worth a clear out) so would susss the sunroof drains instead...  :y

Mine's soaking the OSR carpet as well.  I'm familiar with the idea of sunroof drains (I had to unclog the ones on my Granada several times, though the symptom of clogged drains on the Granada was cold water down the back of the neck rather than a wet carpet!  :o ), but if someone could point me in the direction of where the drains actually are it could save me some searching.

Thanks

They are in the 2 front corners of the sunroof frame (when open of course)
Quite obvious

Seem ok, I can't see anything wrong there.

I'll take some pics tomorrow night of split in the roof channel, see what others here think.  I've got the car in a motor club hangar while I do some bodywork repairs (doors).

Took a bit longer to get some photos taken, but she's back on the drive for now.  Stripped the interior a bit see what's what and it was waterlogged!  Plus there was a fair bit of water in the front too...

The back, notice the old pound coin blocking the hole...

and the roof channel...

I've had a look in the scuttle and all looks ok.

Given that I get no heat from the blowers, is it likely to be the heater matrix...?   :o
