Cam Belt

Hi All
Frade the worst has happened and my cam belt has broken whilst driving.
Question is what damage could I have done internally ie valves/Pistons etc cos if it is going to amount to more than the old car is worth I shall scrap her before starting.
The model is a 1999 2.0Ltr 4 door saloon.
I don't require simpathy or snide remarks just a simple answer will do thank you :-[

Sorry to here this has happened to you mate. I would suspect that some of the valves are bent, depends on how fast the car was traveling at the time, and you could have done a piston as well ut you won't know until the head has been taken off. Also depends on if you are going to do the work yourself or get a garage to do it for you.

Engine wise it is (was) a good-un has only done 72k with no lights on dash

If you can do the work yourself or get it done fairly cheaply, it could be worth fixing. It might be worth getting A N Other head.

No probs doing work myself, it was a question of is it worth the effort to start it. will whip the head of tomorrow (weather permiting as I cannot get it into the garage) to see what the damage is. I was doing about 25-30 at the time 2-2500rpm

4 pot one can be done all in for sub 250 quid...including a new belt and tensioner setup with water pump.

So, has the cambelt and tensioners + water pump EVER been changed?
