engine rattle
« on: 25 March 2009, 12:22:34 »

I have just carried out an oil change but unfortunately, i made the mistake of using 15w/40 oil instead of 10w/40 which i now believe to be the correct oil that i should have used.
Could this mistake of mine be the reason for the loud rattle that has now appeared since the oil change.
I'm suspecting that the hydraulic lifters are what is behind the noise.
Am i on the right track, or am i barking up the wrong tree?

The 15/40 will be a little thicker when the engine is cold, but it would not lead to rattling noises - however the engine will not need the extra thickness - 5/40 or 10/40 is better

If the rattling stops when the engine has warmed up the it could be you exhuast manifold.
