Servicing
« on: 28 March 2009, 08:56:53 »

Can anyone tell me, whats the difference between a major service or and intermitant service......
I just needing to find out what I need to do, when I service my car my self... next month or is it in June.

The car has only done  2500 since the last service and I dont see the point in forkin out 300 squid for someone else for the pleasure.

Auto box changes up and down fine, only issue is when its cold shes smooth when changing up, but seems to say in the gears longer or is it my right foot isnt applying to much pressure.
Me thinks I need to change the fuilded in the Auto Box, so is taking the sump off going to be a better option than just topping it up..

Tried to blagg a service sheet from the local Vauxhall dealer... Parts wheres a good place to get me service parts from and has anyone got one of these fault readers...you know the little gizzie box where you can detect the fault and in some cases reset them... are they worth the money

They all do that Sir!
Seriously .... they're designed to that, intended to help warm cats up quicker.  :y

As Andy says thats normal, select snow mode if it bothers you, but nothing to worry about.

Really would not bother with a code reader unless you have a recurreing problem like air bag light, or pre cat code. As your other thread, try the pedal trick, it will tell you the codes without a reader.

Major service includes the cam belt and tensioner. Needs a locking kit. You should be able to borrow one from somebody on here i would have thought

Does the owners manual go into the service intervals? There is copy of it on here somewhere for download iirc.... Anyone?

You can download it from VX website. IIRC you need to register (free but needs email, etc.) and then you can download all manuals including stereo's.

Wish I did 40k in 4 years....I have my cambelt/tensioners replaced every year, but then I do over 30k..normally 3 sets of front pads and discs also once a year...still cheaper and a far better drive than most cars.

At most garages, minor service is oil change. Major service is an oil change that just costs more ;)

DIY it...

I used to think a major service was 'major' and lots was done, but its simply not the case.

As mentioned DIY it!

Oil change with filter, breather clean, check all fluids on a minor.

Major, oil change with filter, breathers, air filter, brake fluid, coolant change, pollen filter.

When you get the parts at trade, it makes it uber cheaper.

Full service would be less than £100

I usually go for the 4 for 3 on oil offer which bumps the price up

get yourself a trade club card here
http://www.autobahnstormers.org/
Download the pdf app form, print it off, fill it in and send it off with a cheque for £20. Save yourself  some money on trade club parts from the dealer.
You wont get better prices on oil and plugs esp.

My understanding was that they can only give you a membership card which's got a stamp or trade club number on it. I read on some forums that not all trade club dealers accept this. Any one's got more to say on this?
