Cost of breather and gasket work.
« on: 14 March 2009, 00:51:02 »

As I don't have the time and my rocker gaskets are leaking could someone tell me how much I could expect to pay at the Vauxhall dealers for new gaskets and having the breathers cleaned out?

Is it peoples general opinion that the dealers do the job as well as described in the maintenence section?

I wouldn't bother to be honest - I'm sure there's a friendly member close to you who will be able to give you a lift with the job  :y

I would have helped if I was close enough. It wouldn't take much time. I did the same on my car just before xmas (changed rocker cover gasket and cleaned breather pipes + throttle body). Shouldn't take more than an hour or two.

Dream on!
It will take at least a day if you want to do the job properly!
Even the great TB & MDTM would be hard pushed to do the job in an hour. :o

3-4 hours if you do it yourself, parts will cost about £80

Agreed - parts are cheap and it's doable - it's one of the first jobs I did on my 2.6, with almost no mechanical experience.

That said, I'm VERY local - in stevenage myself - so I can help out if you need it. Drop me a PM - i'm about next weekend.

to be honest I am not sure if I personally want to do it or can find the time. I know it is a cop out but I am seriously considering paying someone else to do it..

well,

JJ came 'round today and duly did the deed - all went well and a few coffees, a few biccies and some bacon butties later all back together and behaving its self.  :y

Thanks for the help John - I was going to say "for the assistance" but I was the assistant passing the spanners and making the coffee.  :-[

I have found I am too fat and short to reach into the engine bay and John isn't  ;D

Can't thank you enough man - I owe you one....  :y
