Help With Removing Dashboard.
« on: 25 March 2009, 22:12:56 »

Well looks like as I've got no replies for any assistance on refitting my heater rod then i must assume no one has had the problem and managed to rectify it without removing the Dashboard  :(.

So can i ask if anyone has removed the Dashboard for whatever reason and could give me any advise over and above just following the Haynes manual, such as hint & tips  :).

        All help very appreciated.
                          Pete :y .

PS. Car is a 96 with Air-con and while I've got the dash out I'm going to fit an adjustable steering column.

Thanks Entwood. I know it seems like a lot to just replace this rod but can't see any other way :(.

It is possible to refit the heater rod without removing the whole dash, all you need is small hands and lots of patience. I did mine but it was bl**dy difficult.

Well if i keep trying I'm sure my hands will get smaller with the amount of skin I'm losing :( ;D.

Ballcock how did you manage to connect the left hand side :question.

im now using the wheelie bin ;D,,,,,the thing your looking for is a plastic lever thing thats up quite high on the left side, they face towards you, but as i say ive got non a/c so mine is slightly different rod wise, i think if you take the airbag out it lets in a bit more light & perhaps you may see it, but you cant get your hand through as there is only a little gap, dunno how ballcock done it unless he is anorexic ;D ;D

I removed  half of the passenger side of the car, airbag and all. It can be done. You need at least 5 swear boxes, a little hope and some more effort. It feels great when it's done ( the last part is not true, only relieve is felt) Good luck it is a b*****d to do, but is just about possible >:(

Not a clue what a heater rod is I premume a litttle metal stick that went something like get off you ( donation to swear box). I will have come across it at some point in my dash removal. Wasn't as hard nor did it take as long as many ppl said it wud that I spoke to else where.
Lots of Torques bolts and 10 mm bolts and silly fiddly screws in silly places is the best advise / warning. Just opened box and started undoing anything that looked like it might stop me getting dash out. Very satisfying once out though even better if I manage to get mine back together properly. Good luck fella.

Can somebody point out that it's called North Wales for a reason, lol. Every one of my southern friends always says "How do you fancy coming up to see us or well come down to you." NORTH means up. DOGH!!!!
