3.0 V6 camshafts on 2.5 V6 ??
« on: 03 April 2009, 14:19:18 »

Hi all, I've just started to overhaul my 2.5 V6, and I found that the camshafts appear to be a bit worn. I am looking for more power from the engine and have been told that the 3.0 cams are a suitable upgrade for the 2.5. Does anyone have any experience with this? What sort of power gains could one expect?
Any other useful and easy/good value engine mods worth doing too? :-?

Regards, Niall

Hi,
Welcome to Omega Owning! :y

3 litre cams deffo worth doing.
Could also get a better (reusable/performance) air filter and modify the box. The boy racer cones have a mixed following on this forum - dont see too many mentioned.
Remap? Depends what your after and if you want to spend the money.

When I did my cams and other bits did the exhaust too (sports cats), but thats more expense so may not be what you want to do right now.

Markey mark and ?Mutant Cav have cams available i think (got mine from Mark anyway)

Ok, great! Thanks for all that :)
I have bought a K&N large filter cone which I tried before I dismantled the heads, while I can't say it made it feel much quicker, it improved the sound amazingly and the fuel economy went up 2mpg too, so I'll probably stick that on with a pair of cold air feed pipes when Im done. As for the exhaust, I can't really afford a new set of cats for it but I was thinking of putting the twin-pipe 3.0 backbox on (the standard one looks pathetic and mine is practically rusted through anyway) and removing the secondary silencers too. I was hopin this would reduce the restriction and work with the filter (and cams) to improve the power. Has anyone else done these exhaust mods?

Don`t use oil-coated filters.your MAF sensor won`t like it :(

I fitted 3L cams to my one V6 found it made reasonable upgrade but also had fitted improved air intake and lightened fly wheel with an upgraded 3L chip mid range was far better. If I was you I would also fit a 3L clutch plate I kept slipping the 2.5 even though it was new.

Ok I'll watch out for that, but hopefully I wont need it. Its quite a long job that I dont fancy doing.

Problem is, K&Ns rely on the oil to collect the dirt. If they are not regularly oiled, it goes straight through. They key is to oil them sparingly, or use the original panel filter, as they are not restrictive anyway.
