Heater relay
« on: 01 April 2009, 21:07:41 »

Not really sure if the problem is the heater relay anyway here goes ……….
The car will always fire on the button from cold but its like the heater plugs aren’t staying on long enough ….hope im making sense  it initially fires no problem but as soon as I let go on the key it stops after about six attempts it starts no problem and is ok for the rest of the day
Were would I fint the heater relay ?

Any help appreciated

Have you tried "glowing" 2 or 3 times in a row before trying to start - turn ignition on until little squiggle light goes out and then ign off and repeat 2 or 3 times. If it starts after this then I would say you need some new plugs ~ £30ish  :y

If this doesn't cure it then it might need further investigation..

Thank you for the reply ............
ive had the heater plugs out today & tested them with the multimeter plus batery chager all glowed red very nicely .......its a strange 1 because the engine always fires straight away but doesent continue
its like as soon as i turn the key it cuts the power to the heater plugs if that makes any sence

Thanks again

more likely to be a fuel problem from the sound of it,
as in when you continually try to start it the pump is slowly getting enough fuel to keep running, incidentally by glowing it a couple of times the pump in the tank will be energised a couple of times usually enough to fill the injectors and aid starting
very carefully check the leak off pipes if sny doubt replace them all,
including the one from the injector pump :y

A big thank you  :y ....gave it 3-4 heats this morn started straight away and continued to run ...so by the sounds of it i could be looking at a weak lift pump ....blocked filter in the tank maybe ?
i did the leak of pipes yesterday when i looked at the heater plugs as i had took the inlet manifold of to sort the oil cooler pipes out to say its a rear wheel drive there aint much room under the bonnet
