im still getting a brakepad warning on dashboard
« on: 05 April 2009, 21:32:34 »

hi all, im still getting a warning on my dash board saying brakepad..even though i recently had front discs and pads done at kwickfit.I had them done cos they were feeling a bit bumpy and they seem better now...but still warning comes up.I was charged 130 ish for discs and 70 ish for pads, with supposed lifetime waranty.
Should the brakepad message stop after new pads?
thanks..

hi ..thanks for amazingly fast replies!this is such a cool forum.
i dont know if they did the sensors and to be honest i was a little worried they didnt even do the pads.....i had spotted the other day that they " on the fly" put the wrong reggie on the invoice.although i paid by card.
Can i ask them to fix the sensor? is that a reasonable request ?
thanks again..shell x

Yes, as the sensors should be replaced with the pads as they are integral! :y :y  But watch them doing it and be ready the the bodge! :o :o

thanks lizzie, im getting the idea that i need to watch them do it..but im spotted for blonde from 100 yards.I can live with it if it is only the sensor ...not the pads...but i am increasingly tempted to go somewhere and check for sure that those pads are done...cos my baby goes in this car, and im looking for max safety.
I am also just about to get an oil change....i guess k***f*t   arent so recommended...actually i have a long long long life story about that...lolol (also like i said my invoice had the wrong reggie on it!)
thanks

God no .just the front ones replaced. Also the boy said 12 quid for new pads... KF told me they didnt charge for labour only the parts.

hi alexandjen
,my mot came back with something like "excess play in steeering idle"but i didnt feel it in the streering...so i took to Kf and they passed it.(Previous garage had quoted more than 300.)
Next year Kf Diagnosed this as "offside drag link end ball joint has excess play"...261 quid with "tra"(whatever that might be!)
the receipt sais " drag arm omega" price 240 pounds...and 26.38 for alignment..
also the guy said i should be gratefull because he let slide that my headlight on driver side was too low and wouldnt adjust....

Evening Shell. Dont panic even though KF have been at your car !
The brake pad sensors are fitted to the front pads and on early cars there are one per side on later face lift car only on the one side.

What the sensor consits of a is a couple of wires and a connector at each end.

The connector to the pad always breaks off when the pad is renewed but the the connector to the harness is some times difficult to seperate. And so they dont bother !

You can go to VX and a replacement or go to a good motor factor and get the sensor a bit cheaper and do it your self.

"tra" is probably tracking

Sounds like they either changed the steering idler or a track rod.

Have you got Xenon headlamps?

Alexandjen, im sure it was the track rod ends now that you mention that. hope that is the right term.
I was originally told that it was all one piece..and that i had to replace the lot IE steering idle as well as track rods.
there was never any play in my steering wheel..and in dont fell much different after...

Iainb..thanks for your help...im determined to make KF fix that.

im guessing im wasting my money to get a service at KF.
