Need to repalce the exhaust on 3.2 f/l estate, centre boxes l and r and back box. Which is the best make and which is best to avoid. Want it to be as near standard as possible, so no fancy stuff.  Have access to T/C card so is it worth getting the genuine Vx bits and fitting myself?  Recommendations please...

If you can do it then I would with genuine Vx parts!

Failing that I personally use a very good local specialist tyre and exhaust outfit, who have done that type of work for me for years, to fit whatever (Vx) parts I specify.

sadly Vx exhausts is not the way to go anymore. They used to give decent qauility but now they seam no better than elcheapo patterns costing £130 cat back.

Its either elcheapo route (£130), or stainless (£350-£400)

FYI I bought an Eternal system for my 3.2 estate.  It required surgery to fit(2" off one pipe) to fit.  Also its a bit short at the back end.

However it cost about £120 and sounds reasonable - bit of a deep burble - so no complaints.

Try to avoid Vauxhall exhausts.
I'm not so sure for Omegas (mine exhaust is still ok but don't know did the previous owner changed it), but my friend had a Vectra and the exhaust (last section) lasted for app 15000 miles. He always went mad than at the end fitted a Remus at the back.
Try some brand name models or find a local exhaust manufacturer (they turned up to be more durable than the original parts and a hell of a lot cheaper).

I note the above aversion to Vx exhausts, but I have had them on my cars for the last 20 years and never found them a  problem.  This included cars that did over 100k from new in 18 months, and on cars like the Senator and my first miggy that covered 30-40k a piece on one set of Vx exhausts.

I think the problem with many motorists is they do too many short runs and thus the exhaust systems continually hold too much moisture / water.

Therefore I would agree that stainless steel exhaust systems are problem the best overall for all motorists aiming to keep their cars for any length of time. 8-) 8-)

Therefore I would agree that stainless steel exhaust systems are problem the best overall for all motorists aiming to keep their cars for any length of time. 8-) 8-)  

As Tunnie states, the latest VX Omega exhausts are no better than cheapo pattern ones now unless you can find a dealer who has some old stock.

For the same / better quality as the original the only option is to go for a stainless system from a reputable manufacturer such as 'longlife'.

Well that is what I have always believed, but judging from the comments by Tunnie and VXL, who have experienced differently with Vx exhausts, it seems the quality of those has dramatically reduced recently.

Yup!

Sorry guys Vx exhausts are not what they used to be, I have one of the last propper ones, what went on was the exact same shape and design it replaced.

HOWEVER Vx now just seam to ship cheapo crappy Tin ones, which are no better than pattern.

I would strongly advise against Vx exhausts now

i got a cheap system from germany and 3 yrs later its still on the car,rusting a little around the joins but still solid and not leaking,so i bought another to have as a spare,its been sitting in the shed for almost a year now

2 exhausts in 7 weeks sounds like shi- been told only ones worth having are walkers because they are double skinned on middle box which is the noisy part hope it helps

After reading this I thought I'd get a quote, received reply with quote today, is this a typical price? I know it includes vat and fitting so maybe not to bad, your comments please. Reply below............
