weird idling
« on: 09 April 2009, 11:46:06 »

hi all,
just been on long journey yesterday 250 motorway miles no problem. Started car this morning and now idles 2000-3000 rpm . flicked throttle and revs go back to norm then it starts idling at 2000 going up to 2500 and then back to 2000. it is as though someone is pressing the throttle and taking the revs up and then down.
Dont understand as yesterday was fine.
Any ideas ??
Thanks
Ian

be usefull if you listed the type of engine, as there are a lot of differences between them.

You don't say what engine type you have - need to update your profile details.

If it's a petrol-powered job, I'd say it's the idle control valve that's playing up. It might only need a thorough cleaning.
You also need to check/clean the engine breather pipework and throttle body.

Idle control valve should be cleaned well and check the vac pipes and breathr pipes for damage (particularly the vac servo pipe which can rub against the aircon pipe if fitted incorrectly)

Hi all ,
Took the idle valve and give it a good clean. It is now working as normal again.
Many thanks for your help  :y
