overheating.....!

i cant believe it....just done loads of work on the engine bits and now it's over heating.....???

my wife drives it the most and only short 10 mile trips to work and back....
any longer trips and the temp starts to climb....?
stays at around the 90 mark for ages, traffic or not then all of a sudden it climbs quickly to the red....?
turn the engine off for five mins and will go back to 90 mark.... drive off then it all gose wrong again...?

incidentally tried turning the heater on to see if this will help...but the heater is cold..?

So....

3.0 MV6

recent work done:

HBV replaced
Fixed the water leak on the oil cooler cover.
New thermostat including transfer pipe.
New water pump.
ABS ECU replaced

help....!!!

Air lock?? Try burping the pipes a few times.

If you have no heat in the cabin though it could be that you need to flush your matrix out. I did this on mine and worked a treat. Take the two pipes off that go through the bulkhead on the drivers side then stick a hosepipe on one of the pipes in the bulkhead and flush through for a few mins, then put the hosepipe on the other pipe and do the same. Keep doing this until water runs clear then put it all back together.  :y

yeah i did that when i changed the thermostat.....?

keep thinking that it could be a stuck thermostat....even though it's new....!!!

fuses ok.....

 just been out and had the car running on the drive for about half hour with the heater on full and the cap off the reservoir.

heater is now blowing volcano hot....!!! hotter that its ever been and the reservoir burped a load of water.....temp went up to about 95 ish....

now topped it up with water and still not overheating....!!! but not taken it out yet...fingers crossed it just needed bleeding?

sounds like it...  ...did the fans come on?

I had EXACTLEY the same problem as yours when I rebuilt my top end but I did as you have just done to rectify it, and it has been fine since.

break......just been for a 10 mile round trip and it's still overheating....????

i just dont know what else to do...? :-[

fans do come on...both of them.....????

any cold spots on rad.  if you've had engine apart, all cooling hoses corrected fitted?

just had the plenum off.. the oil cooler out and changed the thermostat and transfer pipe..cooling hoses put back on the right way....!! dont think they could go on any other way...?

didn't fill up the water as instructed in the haynes comic...!! it says that heater hoses should be taken off and heater matrix fill first...or something like that....seeing that the heater works ok i presume i dont nee to do that?

dont know if there are any cold spots..on the rad....?

You should check water with a themometer to check if the gauge is right!
Otherwise a mass problem.

just tried to flush the system out the best i can, refilled and left the car on the drive warmming up..... can treally make it overheat to over 100 like it has been but still getting up to 95....?

the thermostat works....once hot the you can see the water circulating in the header tank...

all the fans come on together around the 90 mark..... two in the front and one more on the other side of the rad between the engine....

cold spots... when the car came up to temp some small parts of the rad are cold.....??? never come across this before.... they become cold once the fans have been on for a bit...i think....bit strange...

really need to take it out for a blast to really test it out...
