ratchet strap to hold lpg donut tank?
« on: 20 April 2009, 11:46:48 »

any reason why this cant be done?  I am sure there must be or it would have been done by now.

Jeromy had trouble getting hold of a tank at all so this one seems to be for a 4by4 that hangs on the back door with a bracket and metal strap, its certainly external anyway. But i need it to go in the spare wheel well of my saloon and the supplyed fixing dont really suit.

Ratchet strap would be easy enough. But cant be aloud surely?

I very much doubt it would be acceptable, although I have seen metal straps round a vertical toroidal tank which might be better. Will dig up the rules and regs later.

When you say it's an external tank, is the multivalve in a sealed chamber that can be vented through a duct to the outside of the vehicle?

Most tanks designed for exterior mounting don't have the Multivalve in a valve box and are therefore unsuitable for mounting inside a vehicle.  :-/

What type of mounting does the tank have?

No brackets at all on the tanks itself. The gubbins with it consists of a metal strap  and large angeled metal bracket that cradles the tank in an upright position and the strap holds it to the bracket. Tailo did say it would need some diy to get it to work.

I guess fire would be an issue with a nylon strap...?

And yes it does have a seal for the centre hole on the tank which vents to the filler inlet/outlet. Two long bolts hold a plastic cover on. :-)

Could you not use the existing strap without the base plate by attaching brackets either side down low in the spare wheel housing?

Alternatively, does it have a couple of bolt holes through the backplate in the centre hole? Just wondering if you could attach a steel strip / angle section to run across the back of the tank and bolt the tank to it.  :-/ This is how the horizontal toroidal tanks I've seen are mounted.
