2.5 TD Sump Plug O-Ring
« on: 20 April 2009, 16:59:35 »

Hello!

Does anyone know, or can anyone find out, the part number for the small O ring that sits in the large flat sump plug I have fitted to my X25DT? I have had one through from Andy at Vx after much deliberation by us, but it is a copper washer! The sump plug takes a T12 (?ish) bit to remove and it flat with a small O ring embedded in it - mine is a bit flat now and doesn't inspire me with much confidence when I tighten it up.

Any help greatly appreciated!  :y

The Vauxhall stealer I use always, without fail (if I ask) includes an 'o' ring with each filter I buy, TC makes them very cheap, as with the oil.

Mine's a bolt-type plug with copper washer - much better idea!

I think the rubber type only comes with the sump plug, but never seen a tractor with this type

My tractor has a Hex, I would not worry about it.  I would use a bit of PTFE tape and feel quite happy until next oil change. :y

I used all sorts on my old tractor. The sumps are really bad for stripping.  In my case, MDTM helicoiled my sump, and I used a Pug plug and pug copper washer :y

if it's the petrol plug then the correct size for O-ring is 18x2 mm (IIRC it was stated so on EPC and had the same size on receipt....)

this is the same problem i had & never got to the bottom of it, in the end vx nearly slung me out [long story]but did give me a washer with a rubber o ring bonded to it for the 1.9, since then ive bought some copper ones off fleabay which seem the same as what was fitted to mine [vx couldnt i/d it], the ones ive got are for various landrover defender models & rover v8 p6`s , will use one on the next oil change :y

Thanks for the replies - It appears that it is a bit of a strange one. I will have to take a picture of it I think. It used to tighten up gradually (i could feel the o ring being compressed slightly) but now it seems to stop dead when tightening - indicating (to me) that the  ring is worn.

I think i will fish it out next oil change and just match up a regular o-ring.

Vx only list copper washers for these - so I have no other options.

Cheers

I wouldn't worry too much Andy, as it happens a lad at work has just bought a O ring set so I might try and match one up when I next do an oil change. Only did one last week so will be a few weeks yet.

Thanks for helping us with it though - bloody TD is a pain  ;D

Ok got the other Tractor engine one coming fro Leicester tonight so should be with me tomorrow, fingers crossed.

If it is i'll get the driver to drop it into you with a couple of other types it could be. FOC of course.

If it isn't any of these then it might be a case the its had a helicoil fitted, we used to get this alot on the 24v engines.

If thats the case it might be a idea to pop up to Ivor Seales @ Soham and should be able to match it up

cheers
