waterpump or cambelt tensione failure HELP NEEDED?
« on: 01 May 2009, 20:09:30 »

Ok I have now serious problems with my car. Please PLEASE I need some help and advice.
Started a topic today called "strange sound from my engine".
Posted some links to pics in it.
My problem is this.
Can a waterpump failure lead to cambelt sliping or breaking?
How to determine what is the cause of the cambelt failure (tensioner or waterpump)????
I need to know this by monday because the cambelt, auxiliary belt and tensiners were changed two months ago (at least the service charged me for them). I can see the auxiliary belt is new but not the cambelt. And now shi.. happened and it looks like the cambelt fell of or snaped.
I have to know how to determine the cause because if the tensioner or the cambelt is the cause of this il have to argue about the mess they made and punch out a few teeth in the service. Surely I have no will to pay again for this if it is their fault so anyone, ANYONE who can help me please write it here or PM me.
Thanks in advance

if the cambelt has snapped the engine will Not start! and will turn over alot easier sometimes slightly faster too you would know if the belt went as it would make an entirely different sound when cranking too

When ever a cam belt is replaced you should do the water pump as well for all the extra cost involved ....but if the water pump has seized up then that could cause belt failure or slipage i belive  :-/

yeah if the pumps broke and if its driven by the cambelt then it will usually snap the belt

alas the V6's pump is driven of the accessory belt but im sure the 4pots follow the usual cambelt driven setup

Yep, the 4-pots have water-pump driven by cambelt...

Always change the water pump, cam belt and tensioners on a 4 pot.

If the water pump is playing up, change the cam belt and tensioners at the same time.

If the cam belt and tensioners are due, change the water pump at the same time.
