very odd problem
« on: 03 May 2009, 15:40:58 »

Can anybody help please, I have a 2.5 v6 omega estate 1997, recently my fuel consumption has doubled & I have noticed there is water dripping from the rear exhaust box when I park, it seems to be running out at the front of the box at the seam, this box was replaced a short time ago. I have a stutter at low revs ie travelling at 35 mph in 4th gear if you try to accelerate it will start to miss, change down to 3 rd & keep revs up it is ok, I am at a loss, fearing the worst, I would be very grateful for some assistance in diagnosis.   Paulie

headgasket is very rare on a V6 , as for the smoke in the cold my 3litre makes loads of condensation

Run a paperclip test its in the maintenance section if you get no codes then look at the Rocker covers is there oil down any of the plug holes? if no oil then check the spark plugs condition and the HT leads for damage if theyre all ok then i would think it maybe the Dis pack

i assume the car is regually serviced?

The water from exhaust could just be from the cat. Normaly nothing to worry about. with fuel consumption check theair filter and the plugs. replace them if needed. ( Hope that helps a bit) Dave. ;)

You will get water in the exhaust - that's normal.

Your problems don't sound serious.

Do a paperclip test and see what that throws up.
Check the spark plugs, HT leads and DIS pack.
Otherwise could be a blocked rear silencer.

if your worried about Head Gaskit, check the oil, pull dip stick and look for mayo type appearance (similar to that of the filler cap which is normal) but ill bet you its fine.

Fuel economy can be a few things. Check multi rams are working. Rev from the engine bay and watch front and rear multi rams, see if they move. Fine if so. Youll need to be quite violent with the revs to get the rear one to move.

Miss fire you need to check plugs leads and dis pac for damage. When where plugs last changed?

Water in exhaust is normal. Mine can be hurd slapping/sloshing around and water dribbles from the box join.

Also try paper clip test as said. Here http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1189022687
