Projectors...HID
« on: 04 May 2009, 11:46:21 »

My elite has hids fitted but I am now exploring options of replacing just lenses or entire units as mine are a mess.
If I bought a set of standard projectors could I fit the ballast packs to the lamps,as are all mini facelift projectors the same ,just HIds have the ballasts without electrical connections for height adjusters.?

You can remove the lenses by cutting around the sealant, to refix lenses just use something similar - silkoflex, bathroom sealant etc etc.

afaik you need hid lights, they are different. Projectors dont have anywhere to attach the balast pack amongst other differences which....escape me for the moment.

VXL V6.So looks like the best plan is just to remove and replace the lenses..now I need to find a set of cheap projectors with perfect lenses and some sealant.
chrisgixer.I did suspect that back of projectors and hid,s were different.
So now on the search for bits

seen mention of using a hair dryer to melt the black goo seal to seperate and re stick. Not done it myself. I imagine seem of insulating tape over the top would cover any gaps or holes. You dont really want dust and water getting in.

Think I read something about hair dryer or radiator to warm up the sealant and then you can seperate the lense.
So my plan is to get another set of lenses either with or without h/lights and then do a transplant.
I have tried everything to get mine clear but they are so badly pitted and marked..they also seem to have marks inside them ..imagine most silicone sealants will stick them back as new..think I have some black windscreen sealant in cartridge tube so that will work.
