had aa man out.
« on: 27 April 2009, 13:34:05 »

hi all

I eventually needed the aa man out to the car as its coughing and spluttering.  it died outside post office right near a bustop >:(

aa came out and told me it was the following problems:
po706 range a circuit and po170 fuel trim.  he also told me it was running rich, but then the garage i took it to said its running lean.

the garage suggested a full service to clean out any probs first.  He thinks there is an airleak as popping sounds can be heard from it ticking over.  Also the air filter pops when the car is first turned off.

What should i do allow him to service it or just fix the probs the aa man suggested?  HELP!!! :-?

Thanks ;D

P0706 Transmission Range Sensor Circuit Range/Performance
P0170 Fuel Trim - exhaust Lean/Rich

Should be totally unrelated. P0170 is normally a sign of a faulty lambda or dirty cats. On the V6's could also be connected to the stem seals letting a little oil through and throwing the emissions off a bit too.

[edit]On the 2.2's (as I've just noticed yours is) it could be a leaky zorst manifold or broken stud causing air to enter the zorst sustem knocking the lambdas off key.[/edit]

Ha!

No doubt at large cost to you? And replacing parts will not help diagnosis.

First thing clear our all the breathers, pop the coil pack out and check for oil in plug wells. Check for any burn marks on the coil pack itself.

thanks for all the advice.  forgot to tell you overheard the mechanics talking one said to the other oh so you know whats wrong with it and the other gave a knowing nod saying no it needs a service.

Does anyone know of a trustworthy mechanic in my area?

thanks alot i really appreciate it.  Hope to meet you all soon at a meet when i get it sorted.
