Key Transponder Security
« on: 05 May 2009, 09:52:53 »

Right, I got a nice shiny new key with blank transponder to get cut as a spare...went to get it cut this morning...all is well key fits in lock etc :y

Fires up the "My Naff Code Reader" and erases all transponders...all confirmed :y

Programs the new key chip no problem as key 1, take key out, put it in and starts car so job done :y

Programs the old key as key 2, take key out, put in and once more starts car so again job done :y

When I go the car it only came with one key programmed as key 2...key 1 didnt come with it...in the very unlikely event someone had the old key 1 does that mean it would no longer work??

Yup, that key will just now open the doors (and therefore set the alarm off)

Yes, the 'missing' key now will not start the car.  Note, however, it is possible to clone the transponder, and your "My Naff Code Reader" would not be able to show if that has happened.

If you have done similar in the central locking/atws (as appropriate), then the missing key also cannot unlock car and disable alarm.
