v6 oil leak
« on: 03 May 2009, 08:01:38 »

hi, have a steady drip of oil from possibly the top osr of engine. if there is no oil in spark plug holes could it still be a possible cam cover gasket ?

Yes it could because not all of gasket will have gaps. It can leak from one small area along the outer edge of the cam cover and not find its way towards the plugs.

You might be able to run your finger along the area where cover joins engine and see fresh oil.

To do: Replace brake discs and pads; adjust already replaced shoes; check for leaks in oil cooler, cambelt area, crank seals, sump, dipstick; replace osf door; replace a tyre; clean, MOT.

followed cam cover to head line and no sign of leakage. felt round back of half moons and they're dry (with engine running). all plug tubes are dry and taken top manifolds off as far as oil cooler plate and no oil around there. the coolant bottle has no foreign bodies and the oil on dipstick is ok. now putting back together and will wait to put on a ramp for a better view, any ideas where else it could leak from? :-/

trying to trace oil leak. have put on ramp and oil is from engine dripping down from rear at top. are the only places it could come from be cam covers or oil cooler pipe leak. i'm worried it might be head gasket ?
