Syd has been running ok for days but now playing up again, got stuck at petrol station today :( after a while I got him going :) once back home it wouldnt turn over so poured water over injection pump and after a bit it did turn over. So not sure if the water did it or it was the same as at petrol staion???? I did notice that when it doesnt start I cant hear the diesel pump in the rear. Does the injection pump have an effect on this? I will put the diesel magic in later today and see if the 64 code goes again. Sorry cockyt1 for keep using your thread but sounds a if we have the same problem :( :( :(

Do you mean it wouldn't fire-up when you say 'wouldn't turn over'?

Yes it wouldnt fire up, worried about flattening the battery again so only give short bursts. Off out in it now as its starting everytime at the moment but not going to turn it off while Im out just in case!
Will do the magic diesel when Im back home.
Pleased your have yours sorted cockyt1  ;) ;)  hope it stays ok and doesnt fail agan as mine did :( :(

My warm-start problem was cured by fitting a good quality new battery of the correct spec for a 2.5TD.

This was done as a last-ditch bid to cure this common fault - I'd just shelled out nearly 1500 quid on a new injection pump and No4 injector! In short, if your battery is not absolutely positively 100%, it's worth looking into - it worked, (and still does so), on mine.

By the way, the in-tank pump only runs for a short while. It pressurizes the fuel system before the injection pump takes over.

I have just put the diesel magic in the filter and gone for a quick drive. Its starting first time, straight away and the 64 code has cleared again :) hope it doesnt come back again but will know for sure tomorrow when I drive it into town. Will do the magic again as suggested if it does, I never changed the filter, should I? I have put the vx battery from Pete on to Syd as it did have a cheap one when I got it. As for the pump I know from previous posting it only runs for a short time but Im sure a couple of times it hasnt started up. There again I have put the boot liner backin so may not hear it any way ;D ;D
At least cockyt1 and I are happier than we were this morning :y
Look out for my next questions as I have a few more jobs to do on Pete and Syd :D :D :D

Ali, regarding the battery: I'm not sure if the one you've now fitted is the correct spec for the 2.5TD.

Any half-decent supplier should be able to confirm this either way - or you could try a post here!

i would recommend a filter full of diesel magic every 6 months or so to keep the 64 at bay.  If it keeps coming back, and power loss changing gear, its likely a new pump.

code 64 is back :'( :'( :'( :'(  and not easy to start. Turns over but doesnt fire up straight away. No loss of power in fact im amazed on how quick it goes :o Compared to when  I got it a few weeks ago its running really well and the smoke on start up has gone. This car had sat still for at least 6 months before I got it and only done 2000 miles in last 3-4 years! Ive done 500 miles in it already ;D ;D ;D I will try the diesel magic again and also Should the glow light plug come on every time I turn the ignition on?
