Starter motor spares
« on: 10 May 2009, 21:56:50 »

Finally managed to get the starter off my V6 and as long as I live I never want to have to do one again.

Anways i've pulled the starter to bits and the inside of the motor itself was totally full of old oil and gravel and just general gunk so no wonder it didn't want to work.  I've cleaned all that up but i've also noticed that 1 of the brushes is extremely low, it's the one with the braided cable attached that then attaches to the back of the solenoid, it's so low that the cable is almost coming away from the brush.  Is it possible to get replacement brushes for these or can you only buy the whole starter?

I've had a quick look but I can't seem to find anything.

Not sure, as my parts catalogue isn't working, but imagine (at least from Vauxhall) its a whole unit.  Maybe one from a breaker would save you a heap of hassle?

If you want to rebuild yours, guess a search on net for overhaul kit or refurb kit.

I'd have thought a local auto sparks/ starter or alternator refurb place would be able to sort you out with brushes. Being the lazy bugger I am though I'd just leave it at my local autosparks for repair, everything is normally £25!  ;)  ;) :y :y
