Cambelt change in progress - 1st problem
« on: 19 May 2009, 13:50:16 »

I am following the OOF DVd and so far it is going well BUT

neither cams 1 and 2 or 3 and 4 were previously very well timed and with the crank locked on the water pump I couldn't get either lock tool in..

I have now locked cams 1 and 2 in correct place using the red tool out of my VSE130 kit(smaller side up) after adjusting the existing setup turning the top adjuster anticlockwise.

I have tried turning the lower adjuster anticlockwise to get the green tool in on the right hand side. No success but I am worried that I am doing it wrong! With the double C shaped tool both marks are about an eight inch to the right very approx

Any tips please?

If you have the Cam Lock in between 1 & 2 cams and 3-4 cams are 1/8 of an inch to the right (clockwise) of the cut outs on the Double C as you call it, the bottom idler needs to be slackened, then the top idler inbetween 2 & 3 tightened to bring them back.

Hope that makes sense. :y

yes that makes sense but can i ask a really daft question?

Which way slackens on the idler and which way tightens? They both have an arrow on them that points anticlockwise as you look from front of car.

Dont worry to much for a min about the arrows... you will see if you are tightening if 3 & 4 cams move back to the correct position.

Dont forget that the arrows are a starting postion not set in stone :y

Pete/Lookee Pit - Probably not needed but just in case I will saddle up Miguel our donkey to send him to Stoke (football ground). Expect him in about three weeks. You won't miss him - he will be the only donkey. Don't forget to bring that pair of decent serviceable CATs with you.

If the job goes smoothly you will have to send the cats via courier.
