two things a the trouble with a "quick" release adaptor is that you lose approx 100 grams of gas everytime you remove it and b,you need BOTH adaptors to do the job properly, a gauge on the low side tells you nothing as it should always read approx30 psi regardless of how full the system is

just thought, also you can only vapour fill on the low side or you risk "slugging" the compressor.

you should always fill on the low side and it will be vapour as soon as it leaves the gas bottle and expands into the system.

Only the pressure in the bottle keeping it liquid ;)

turn the bottle upside down! you liquid charge on the high side, vapour charge on the low side, darn sight quicker to liquid charge.

You can get quick release adaptors with integral shut-off valves. I dont lose any refrigerant when disconnecting.

If you invert the cylinder then it is liquid up to the handwheel valves on the gauge set, it will vapourise very rapidly between the valve block and the vehicle service ports.

I prefer to 'liquid' fill the first 300-400 grammes into the high side, especially if adding oil. I then start the engine and add the remaining refrigerant through the low side but I make sure that the LP handwheel is only just cracked open to ensure that only vapour reaches the pump.
I use this method because I like to monitor the system pressures as it fills. I am looking for a stuck pressure regulator in the pump, a blocked condenser or a stuck expansion valve and have seen all on Omegas.

You should never try to fill via the high side if the engine is running, the pressures are too high and you risk backflow into your bottle and contamination of your nice clean refrigerant.

How will you add the correct measurment of oil, and UV dye to check for leaks. I paid £40.00 to have mine done properly almost 2 years ago and I'll happily pay the same again even though it's working fine, I think it should be re-gassed to keep everything oiled and ready for summer.
Personally I think DIY A/C is not worth the hassle to save £40.00 every two years. If something goes wrong it will have been an expensive venture.

Personaly i like to do things myself as nobody seems to take the time or care :-/

I'd like to get it completly vacced out and leave it on test for 30 minutes to check for leaks before refilling using mates fridge scales :y
