Oil Filler Neck
« on: 24 May 2009, 09:39:30 »

I have noticed a very slight oil trace from the base of the oil filler neck to the rocker cover. The rubber "o" ring seal has been renewed but the oil is still there and when inspected due to only a single bolt securing it,the seal does seem to be very suspect.
Is it wise to run a bead of instant gasket seal around the base plate and the rocker cover,as am very doubtfull it will be oil tight without some form of extra sealing.

are you sure its not spilage?
its not bolted on its a twist and lock idea, the lock tab locates on the bolt, just lift the tab and twist the filler to romove....

Definatley not oil spillage..if I apply a small amount of sideway pressure to filler cap oil seeps out from joint..am aware it is a twist joint but apperas that "O" ring seal is not up to the job...especially as it has been renewed

Just take the neck off! It's only needed to make topping the oil up easier. Just refit it when topping up plus you won't get the normal mayo in it then ;)

BTW the cap will fit where the neck came out :y

If the seal is reasonable condition, never seen one leak from there.  I have seen them leak from the join in the 2 pieces of plastic that make up the neck
