Door check strap washers
« on: 23 May 2009, 11:55:17 »

Both front doors have been click clacking for a while now. Both washers were replaced about a year ago but hey ho, not exactly expensive. While I was at my local Vaux dealer this morning I picked up 4 new washers, but when I went to fit them I found that the bolt was loose in the check strap. I just tightened it up and no more click clack.

The question I have is, should the bolts be tight or do they need some slack. Having tightened them up am I just hiding the problem, should I still change the washers ?

Disagree - I'd go for 'just nipped up' and check them again in a few weeks to ensure they haven't worked loose

That's right - the nuts are nyloc type anyway, so shouldn't work loose.

I'd change the bushes. about 20p each. They are designed to be dry lubricated so they don't attract too much shite.

Also, WD40 is NOT a lubricant.

It is actually  ;) .... it's just that there are other more suitable lubricants available!
