Self levelling rear shockers failure

What is it that actually fails on these?

I have established that air is coming out under pressure (don't know if enough) from the black tube to each shocker but they don't rise.

Took one shocker off and the normal shock absorber function seems fine. Tried blowing in the air pipe and no resistance. Is that a sure test that they are tatered? I presume that there isn't any repair that can be done?

Pump works fine, sensor seems OK as when detached pump kicks in when it is on max position.

has anyone got any lying around to "blow into?"

have seen a few posts on here about oil leaking out of them, and that is how mine failed. The level side was working fine. Just no damping, the back was banging around like the wheels where bouncing off the road surface. I still have the old ones, will go blow and see. But as a guess at this stage, would suspect the bladders. Strange both have gone tho. Is the car, or has it been, lop sided at the back at any point?

No never been lop sided but I do a fair bit of towing (nose weight no more than 75Kg) and also carrying heavy stuff e.g. bags of cement powder in the boot.

It has its original rear springs so maybe they are nicely worn. I had a new pair of VX shockers over here four years ago and they managed to lose the self levelling  in not much mileage.

When I changed mine I blew into them gently with an airline to precharge them, this caused the bellows to inflate and the shock to lengthen so if yours doesn't I'd suggest they're faulty.

Right, fitted rear mv6 shocks in place of self levellers.(will keep them until i know the car will tow without any hight issues)

air line will expand the belows. With good sl shocks removed they extend fully or "top out" on their own, as they do when new out of the box.( they are held compressed with a nylon strap when boxed) Applying an air line in this state blows the belows out, no more than that.

When compressing the shock air can be hurd rushing in and out of the air hole. Blowing by mouth in the hole was useless as i aint  got the puf. probably got about 0.5 seconds of air in and that was it. No suprise there really.

I guess from this, if the shock is removed,cover the air hole with a thumb and compress the shock by hand. Any leak in the belows should become apparent as a hiss/gradual leak down. Youll need some heft  ::) and to almost fully compress the shock to build some back pressure, youll need a bloody strong thumb also.

Yes. breaked. shame i lobbed the old ones. may have been able to swap the bladders onto yours, or at least do an ortopssy and see if possible...
