Bit of a weird one?
« on: 25 May 2009, 13:17:37 »

Starts fine, drives fine until it simply cuts out whilst driving, battery lights and engine light comes on and the engine switches off, sometimes it will start again immediately, others you have to walk away come back in an hour and it will start and drive and let you finish your journey. It's cutting out about once a journey now, sounds fine when it does go etc any pointers chaps would be appreciated as i'm bloody useless when it comes to a spanner!

Sounds a bit like a crank sensor issue.

do the paperclip test, in one of the maint sections and post back any fault codes.

My guess is you will have a 19 for starters, which will be the route of the problem

As others have said, sounds like crank sensor. Expect code 19.

One of the classic symptoms is car cutting out when hot. Levae it for a few hours, and it starts and runs OK for a bit longer before cutting out again.

I can say this from bitter experience ::)

Thanks for that guys, what's the fix, assuming its the crank sensor and is it a specialist job?

Cheers,

Peter
