TD Oil Cooler pipes a cautionary tale
« on: 10 June 2009, 13:22:55 »

Attention all Traktor drivers:
One of the pipes to the oil-cooler on my October '96 Traktor corroded & started to leak (made a huge mess on the driveway)
Went to VX - Ah, the pipes for your early model were superseded by the later type so we cannot supply a replacement, you'll have to buy 4 pipes & all of the alternative fittings of the later type.
How much will that cost? - I'd rather not frighten you sir, but just one pipe will cost £55 plus VAT!
e-Bay to the rescue, got a full set of the later type next-day delivery. Had to jack-up the engine to get them on but problem solved & as a bonus, there's so much oil on the n/s chassis that rust won't be a problem in the future!
So all you 'Agricultural' types - check your pipes for corrosion because if one fails it will dump all of the oil in a matter of seconds, & keep your eyes peeled for someone breaking a TD & grab a set of pipes 'just in case'!

Cheers for this Pitchfork, great minds think alike!

I've been considering getting a local hydraulic hose supplier to make me up a set, as you cautiously state, 'just in case'.

On mine it was the steel pipe that had corroded not the rubber part
It's hellishly complex with lots of bends & joins so I'd suggest sourcing a set of used ones or robbing a bank!
Right now member Tigers Gonads is about to break an early TD so there's an opportunity for someone with a 94 -96 Traktor to invest in some insurance!

WAS THINKING ABOUT THIS A FEW MONTHS AGO!! fortunately mine are or appear to be ok at the mo, know what your saying about all the bends etc but i think if mine did go i would just remove the whole lot and take them to Pirtek, and have new reinforced hydraulic hoses made to fit!!

I would expect it to be cheaper to avail yourself of some good used ones
BTW have diagrams of both types either as jpg or in a word document - How do I attach either to a posting?
