2.5TD fuel consumption
« on: 09 June 2009, 10:28:43 »

Markseth's just been in touch with his figures, using the 'brim-the-tank-and-use-it' method, (and confirmed by moi) ......

His very lively manual-'boxed tractor achieves 33 mpg around here - same as mine.
That's two 'valleys tractors' with proven identical fuel consumption!

Yes, that's about 9 litres for 100 km, which seems about right. Not an energy saver this M51 lump...

Hmmm ......
Okay, but when you take into consideration the power-to-weight, BHP per ton, etc etc ratios, plus the terrain and MAM, I reckon it's a pretty acceptable and realistic figure.
Oh, and your driving a luxury car too!

This is the proven consumption figure for running around the Valleys in a near-2 ton car!

I'd very much doubt if a V6 would come anywhere near this figure on like-for-like usage. Low 20s seems to be the norm for these.
2.2DTi: I wouldn't have thought it any better than a 2.5TD. Anyone ....... ?

I'd say about the same as mine, although I've not done a brim the tank thingy yet.
My driving of the TD estate involves towing a 1460kg caravan when I do take to the road and that achieved last time out around 26 mpg on average on a full tank.
That's 400 miles from a full tank (70 litres I think?) and 190 of those miles were towing, so not bad.

high twentys religiously for me, with spirited country road driving and the odd blast on the m'ways....which usually gives 350-400miles on a tank of super at £70 now :(...used to be £60 to fill her

The 2.2DTi is quite a bit better.  I average 44MPG out of mine.

I don't work out the mpg that often, I just see how many miles it does between being full and hitting the red. Usually about 520-550, the last tank managed 580!

Based upon using 70 litres (tank holds nearer 75) I get about 35 mpg - this is Fenland driving though, so not a hill in sight!!

guess mine is always so good as it just doesnt do any cold running at all, or short runs ,usually temp is around 20 when i start it, apart from maybe half a mile its all down a very steep mountain road for the first ten miles, then main roads into town, which are flatish, only use super diesel or plus ten as they call it here, average engine speed is 2k all the way to town and back, always averages around 44mpg, and if im feeling particularly relaxed, an easy 47ish, however booting it everywhere it drops to low thirtys!!!! :y
from santander to here is around 610 miles and it will do it on a full tank easily at cruise set to 75  :y

:-? I take it you've never been to the Maesteg Alps. Even goats use climbing gear on certain sections.  ;D

Aye, 'tis Alpine territory indeed here - not like the Sospan flatlands where 'tractors' have a leisurely life!

Markseth's and mine get a fair ragging around these parts - d'ya fancy a visit from a couple of tractor-owning 'valleys boyos' on a dark night?!?!?!
