Grrrrrrr
« on: 07 June 2009, 18:25:10 »

Well somebody decided to pull out of a junction into the side of my mrs yesterday. Both passenger side doors are really badly damaged and there is a hole right the way through the back door, and slight, but repairable damage to the pillar. Does anybody have any ideas how to fix this? Also as a result of this i am getting a check low beam fld/vision message on my screen. The car is completely drivable apart from this but i've been told it will probably get written off if it goes to the insurance! How much do you lot think it would cost to fix it? Also to add a sting to the wound i was hit by an uninsured driver!

Did you get the police involved or did the guy do a runner?? If your gonna have to claim on your own insurance then I would just get 2 replacement second hand doors and stick em on...not sure whats involved in repairing the pillar though

right - take control here.  the car is yours, the insurance company cannot write it off without your permission.  it is your property!  What they will do is offer to buy it off you for a price.  This is what they mean by writing it off.  If you claim there is a deal to be done:  they may offer you X to write it off but if you say, give me £x-200 to settle and I keep the car, what's the problem?

I presume it is your insurance company you are talking bout here, so they should be interested in keeping you happy.  Remember they will tell you it works like this and that because it is easy for them NOT you..

If it gets written off by the insurance it becomes a category C as it's not minor damage as it involves the main structure of the car with the a post. It will need a 'sva' test to put back on the road and have to be re-registered and the damage will be recorded through hpi. Plus the insurance will become higher. Going through this with a motorcyle at the min that the insurance company wrote off as someone pulled out in front of me.
decided it wasn't worth it as wouldn't be able to sell it cause no one's gonna touch it with a barge pole.

However if the insurance companys are not involved than fix it and no ones the wiser :y

Also i think the car has come off pretty well for the speed he went into the side of my mrs. He basically went straight through the crossroads without stopping into the side thats why its gone straight through. The front end of the car he was driving is completely trashed he hit the side of the car with the front right hand corner of hits and then was dragged along by my car, completely spinning his car in the process.

It was caused by me sawing the shard of metal that was sticking out so as not to remove pedestrians legs!
