I had a little chat with the guys at the F1 Autocentre. At first the guy at the desk said "Oh they are interchangeable and it doesnt make a difference blah blah" however when I pointed out to him that they were different lengths and are quite clearly NOT interchangeable he recinded and said Oh yes, that model, and pop back during the week and we will change them free of charge.. It doesn't inspire me with any confidence but I will have this done and check that it is done satisfactorily.

Cheers all   :y

That was good of him!!!!  :-?
They fitted the wrong dampers in the first place, of course they should replace them at their expense.!  :y

Well if he is confident that the parts are interchangeable then he won't mind you going to trading standards and the dept of transport will he?

I suggest you take a print of the monroe catalogue before you go. Make sure they fit the right parts.
Also watch them work.

Sounds like they are idiots so need watching.  However if they are putting you right then fiar enough

You'd think that the fact the replacement shockers were different from those he took off would have made him think whether he had the correct shockers! ...... apparently not though  :-?

only if he were capable of intelligent thought.  From my very limited experience of such establishments the typical inhabitant (and there are some good ones), spends most of the day dragging his knuckles on the ground...........................

Can someone explain how the Vaux numbering  system works ?. I have a couple of sets of shocks for sale, and one set has the GM number 90 335 774. Now, I don't have access to TIS or a GM parts list, but this site http://translate.google.co.uk/translate?hl=en&sl=de&u=http://www.ls-autoparts.com/Artikel.asp%3FItem_Number%3D63361159%26Parts_manufacturers%3DNK%26FazTyp%3D25743a97228fe7459b5583c014af2f51%26Sprachnr%3D1&ei=dyI1StTWNsnLjAfUntH5CQ&sa=X&oi=translate&resnum=6&ct=result&prev=/search%3Fq%3D90335774%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-GB:official%26sa%3DN%26start%3D30  suggests that there are 7 manufacturers models that are called this number. Does this mean that they are all compatable ?. The 3 monroe models listed all seem to tie up with 3.0 Omega's, however if I click on 1159G, it now includes the 2.5V6, the 2.5TD and 2.0 16V. and if I select the 1864G model it now adds  the Omega model A, plus Senator B. Indeed one of the Monroe models also seems to fit the Vectra A. Does one size fit all ?
This is doing my head in  :P :P :P
