Deadlocks ( Drivers door, can't unlock )
« on: 14 June 2009, 21:02:17 »

Evening guys,

My drivers door solenoid packed up a while ago.  When I first got the car all doors worked fine.  Gradually over a period of months, the drivers door got progressively worse till maybe a couple of months ago where the solenoid packed up completely and I had to manually lock with the key the drivers door.  Manually locking using the key locked all the doors and I was able to unlock using the remote except again, for the drivers door that I had to use the key.

So........All doors except drivers door work from key fob.  Drivers door, key only.

The deadlock system worked and I could hear the solenoids make another noise with a second press of the lock button.  However, whenever I did this, I could always unlock the car with the key.

Today, deadlocked the car and now can't unlock with the key.  I can't turn the key no more than say 5º...

The doorlock button raises no more than say 3mm?

Can anyone help?  I was going to replace the solenoid but health prevented me and so now am unsure how I can get the door open?

Thanks so much for reading!

Will need a load of force to unlock if solenoid is not working

Im pretty certain that if deadlocked, you can open the door with the key, but you have to use quite a bit force on the key, to the point where you might think the key will break, but it will open it .

Pretty certain on this, but you may want to wait for conformation on this  :y

Agreed, locks are stiff if the solenoid is bust. Mine was anyway. Deadlock only stops you opening the lock from inside, ie. if the robber smashed the window he still couldnt unlock the door.

Guys,

When you say force, it feels like I'm gonna need a pair of mul-grips or something to give me the leverage it "seems" the resistance is that stiff!

What I don't understand is what's providing the lock force as the solenoid hasn't worked for some months and I had previously dead locked the car and yet the drivers door was unaffected.  Maybe just by chance of misfortune, the lock has worked but in the deadlock direction and now got itself stuck?

Shouldn't be that stiff, be carefull then cause you dont want to snap a key, taht said they are tougher than you might think. Is the door deadlocked?, have you tried the lock from the inside?

One last thing before I attempt to force the key.

What should the action of the button inside the car be when the car is deadlocked?

Should they pull up with no action of should they stay stuck down and be practically impossible to pull up?

Success guys or at least to an extent...

Have to turn the key real hard and then a click is heard.  The plunger inside the car stays down but the door does open.  To lock I have to turn the key to the lock position then harder till a click is heard again and then the door is locked.

I just need some kind gent to now refer me to the how to to remove the door card and replace the solenoid.  I also need a solenoid please if someone has a spare.  I have asked in the buy/sell parts area of the forum but am unable to start a thread as I haven't posted the minimum times (250) grumble...grumble...grumble...

Many thanks guys, top forum!
