Clicking??
« on: 22 June 2009, 20:49:51 »

Ok Im still running and on the road following the mamouth rebuild.

No leaks and have loads of power back however I have a what I can only describe as a clicking noise when shes running.

I notice it most when sat in a tunnel as the noise circulates so its easier to hear. On tickover its not bad but once accelerating it gets more frequesnt and louder. Ive done all the usual checks and cant see anything catching and it sounds to be on the right hand bank.

Any ideas anyone as its bloody annoying  >:(

;) nice try but definatly not down to a brick in the tyre.

Im beginning to wonder if its a manifold leaking. At first it made me wonder if it was the timing belt but everything runs fine. I have to remove the aux belt to change it so Im gonna take the timing cover off and inspect it but I cant see it being under there.

Yep, sounds like a leak on the exhaust manifold (well, one of them anyway). Mine does it on start up and then goes away when warm...  so i'm ignoring it!

Good luck,

Martin.

Mine does it constantly but saying that Ive not been on a long drive to notice the difference if it does it when hot. I mostly do short journeys too and from work with a heavy right foot!!  ::)

Does sound like exhaust manifold...both sides can be done without removing engine...drivers side is obviously a lot easier to get to though :y

Ok Thanks chaps......

one question though, would you get the same result/noise if it was leaking from the joint on manifold to downpipe??

As far as I was concearned the manifolds were fitted correctly on installation but have doubts about downpipe joints as new seals were not used??

If it is manifold or down pipe it will tend to be worse under load.
If the cambelt tension is out you can get a ticking noise each time the tensioner hits the end stop, this noise changes with speed, not load.

Well the noise is a constant level when on tickover, however it gets more frequesnt the faster you go or the more you rev the engine.

When I set the timing the torques were all correct and the tension was set as required. I will have to remove the cambelt cover and have a look again.
