Exhaust fixed but enging warning light now on.
« on: 19 June 2009, 08:44:08 »

Having trouble with my 2000 (X reg) 2.2 petrol CD estate.

I bought the car for £800 with some work to do I set about the tasks required.
A new coolant header tank, main bulbs, fog lights, rear offside light cluster, disks and pads all round, air con re-gassed, new front tyres, cabin filter, new oil, fuel and air filters and a dent that needed beating and filling.
With all this done the car was a dream to drive still a small blow on the exhaust and the clutch was a bit spongy (clutch and thrust bearing/washer to do next)
While on holiday I jacked up the car to look at the blow on the exhaust and found that the braiding between the exit manifold and the cat was total frayed and the joint had come loose. I think this might have failed while driving to holiday. Anyway, looked around for a spare or replacement, £265 was the cheapest I could find so while saving I did a repair. Went to Halfords got a flexible repair kit and to jubilee clips. These where secured round the joint with the gun gum as per the instructions and left overnight to cure. And cure it did, the blowing has stopped and the car was running fine, until............. The orange engine warning light came on the car lost power while accelerating. I changed down a gear and got the car parked up, restarted the car and all was well.
This all happened on 16th; today the warning light has come on again but with no obvious error while driving, only that the alarm seems very sensitive. I have parked outside work and the alarm as gone off 4 times already and it’s not even windy.
Now I’m no diagnostition but I think it might be the oxygen sensor either pre or post cat. Could someone please help?
Would disconnecting the battery help restart management system for the alarm problem?

Alarm could well be the bonnet switch, try unplugging it and see if that stops it.

They often get bent resulting in false activations.

Ghost Drive, TheBoy > Thought about it after reading, but as stated further reading lead me to find I can not do this on my model. Any other suggestions?

Well the bonnet mod helped for the first day but not the alarm goes off at night! Will be checking the power sounder next for battery lift and signs of corrosion

The warning light has gone out thought so I believe all to be well.

Thanks for the help so far any more is very welcome.

Doesn't the pedal test work on the 2.2's? It does on the veccy/astra/zafira engine.

To check, hold down brake and accel, turn key until dash lights up (not running) and start to count the flashes.

Nope, no known diy method on Omega 2.2's

the vectra is a different 2.2 engine, not sure off top of my head on the others.
