cruise questions
« on: 26 June 2009, 08:42:04 »

have just aquired cruise control (thanks to markey mark).got a couple of questions...Q1-according to the how to cruise in the maintenance section there are 2 types of clutch swith depending on chassis number,A-where would i find the chassis number?B-is it part of the VIN..Q2 will i be required to visit a tech 2 to get it enabled? i believe the car to be a mini face lift(stereo controls on stearing wheel, centre console window switches etc) any help would be much appreciated.

Isn't the VIN (vehicle indentificiation number) the chassis number?

Chassis number should be in a few places, easiest is either on the dash, nearside - or the V5. As for tech2, depends on the model/age/level of trim etc and it doesn't have to be a tech2. I believe an "My Naff Code Reader" can do this and they are relatively cheap, if you can't find a member with one locally.

Chassis number is on the black plate at the nearside windscreen pillar.
If you check The Boys signature in any of his posts it will give a link to his Tech 2 info that suggests you will have to get the cruise enabled.

is the chassis number the last 8 digits of the VIN beginning with a single letter then 7 numbers?

Legal versions of "My Naff Code Reader" are £600, way overpriced, and cannot be justified.

Additionally, whilst its a decent enough code reader capable of (clunky) live data, it is a dodgy programmer that I would not trust having seen the mess it has made of stereos and immobiliser units.
