How do change an a/c belt on 2.5td and what tools do you need please.

Just had mine changed, not by me but by Pete & Daz on here. Make sure you get the correct belt......it's ref number is 4PK 805. That's for a Facelift X25DT engine, make sure you have the same engine as the is another type. Got my belt from the dealer, as there are varying types proposing to fit from various places.

As for fitting well I had mine fitted and they took off all of the fan cowling and fan (which is a lefthand thread) that's after taking off all the black plastic stuff, charge pipe I think it's called.
I had my pump and stat changed so they had to remove all the above to get at them.
Think you can also get at it from below but you will need to remove the undertray for access.

If from below, once the undertray is removed you will need a flat blade screwdriver to pop the plastic cover off the belt tensioner wheel and a 13mm spanner to loosen the bolt. The tensioner wheel is on a cam and will pivot.

4pk805 is one size, and I'm not saying it won't be correct, but I tried 3 different length belts before I got the right one ...and it wasn't any of the lengths listed :-?
(but that sort of abnormality seems to be the norm on any vehicle I own/work on/walk past  )

4PK 805 is the ref no I took off the belt, suggest you do the same and read what it says on the belt before you remove it as may it differ ref above post.

spot on lads, got belt off. the one ive getting from halfords is wrong(didnt know until i got old on off and measured them )got number off old belt will work from there. cheers charlie

4pk 805 is on the old belt in halfords book its 4pk775 might mean theres a 20mm difference in length

Can't remember what mine was, but I don't think it was either of those. I'll have a look if the number is still visible on the belt. I think one was slightly too long and the other was too tight to even go on. 3rd size tried got it right.
Baffles as to how they differ because they should be all the same, but as I said, it could well be just me and my luck with anything mechanical. If there's the remotest chance of it needing something unusual, then that's what mine will need. 

Edit: Hmm...What you said about the "Halfrauds book" saying one size and it being wrong rings a bell.
Just been out to look but all I can make out is "Masterfit"  and "84305" and it's very faint so can't be 100% certain that is what it says.

Been told they changed the engines slightly on the TD around 2000 facelift so the dealer says, found that out when Pete & Daz were given the wrong pump and stat.

Changed my stat not long ago, hope ive got right one in. Sits bang on 80 cruising and then up a bit with steep banks or flooring it, but when the temp goes up it seems to lose power abit until temp goes back down to 80.I think for the a/c belt they changed the  big pulley for a bigger one, making it need a longer belt.

Plus you will need a 10mm allen key to put the tension on

That does sound a bit cool if anything. Mine was behaving like this until I changed the stat whereby it now sits at about 92 when cruising and about 95 in traffic. Enthusiastic driving can bring 97 if you are going for it on a warm day

AFAIK, the belts all stayed the same length, but the pulleys varied for different markets/ages (I guess in an attempt to make compressor cope better with different climates?)

On what, then a/c tensioner?  All the ones I've done have been 15mm from memory)
