Regassing the aircon
« on: 29 June 2009, 08:54:20 »

Hi all,

I am having to drive 650 miles tomorrow and as it is going to be rather hot I thought I would try and regass the aircon. A local garage has quoted me 75 quid plus the Vat to do it. Does anyone sell kits that you can do yourself? and has anyone ever used them?

Cheers

halfords sell the kits, but generally a waste of time.

Get it done properly, if you want it to work properly.

£75 + VAT sounds way overpriced to me, £50 inc VAT is about the going rate for a regas.

Isn't there a company that do mobile air-con servicing, (£10 cheaper if you take it to them), that has been recommended on this site a fair few times? IIRC they were about £60 all in.

I can't remember their name tho! Think it may be a franchise. Anyone got a clue? :-/

(I remember that there's one in Sutton Coldfield and I need his number for a re-gas too.....)

Think any services will be over-run at the moment what with the met office issuing a hot weather alert! 8-) 8-)

Vectra Elite Estate doing good post-Omega service but still not as nice to sit in.

One last Omega on the drive, one Corsa on the lawn...maybe they'll go to a good home before too long!

Mark, your profile doesn't say where you are but I just found this company based in Tamworth, in the Midlands. No idea about how good/bad etc as i got them from Yell!

But £45+VAT for a full service is certainly a price to go on  :y

Don't bother with the DIY kits, you can't do it properly.  I believe you may struggle to buy them anyway, as I understand they are about to be made illegal to sell.
