MAF
« on: 15 June 2009, 18:43:15 »

So evening.

Done lots today.
Had misfire (chugging & sluggish) under load, but cruise nice at 70.

Checked plugs, leads.

Cleaned EGR.  Found front trumpets insecure and not seated properly and jubilee clips loose.

Had it ticking over, sounds OK, but when blip throttle and drive under load, still chugging.

Now got fault code 73 after paper clip test.  How do I fix this fault MAF Sensor voltage low.  Thanks guys.

if the maf is buggered, replacement is only solution.

Airleaks can cause spurious maf codes - a proper diag machine needed to get live data to check properly

Thanks Gents.

Have taken MAF off.  Cleaned it an WD40'd the connectors.  Put it all back together.  Did paper clip test at 600rpm and at 3500 rpm  Still getting code 73 MAF sensor voltage low and 19 rpm (incorrect rpm signal) at both 600rpm & 3500 rpm ?

Have replaced o/s cat converter and rear back box only.  am I cutting corners here.  Do I need complete new exhaust.  Car is now ?issing me off.  Thinks the prob is simple, like me but the wife still don't understand me.   Might have to bite the bullet, admit defeat and let garage look at it :'( >:(

Tried at different rpm 'cos telling me no signal.

Been researching and also came up with crank case sensor.  Will try this. Here's hoping

Replace the crank sensor if your getting a code 19...use genuine Vaux one only and route away from oil pipes and exhaust as much as possible...old one can just have the ends cut off to remove as Vaux routed them right between the oil cooler pipes!!!

Will most likely fix the code 73 too...

Hello people, just signed up sorry for getting straight to the point and dragging up an old thread!

I stumbled across this thread using google (who'd have thought it!) i have an AstraMk2 running an early 94 X30XE omega engine and am having exactly the same problems as the thread owner.

I have changed many things, new oxygen sensors, plugs, leads all sorts! Tried known working MAF from other engines and still the same, i find the car is more driveable with the MAF unplugged but still a noticeable misfire real low down. I have no EML light on but when i flash the codes im getting 73 & 19 weither this is because i was running with the MAF unplugged i dont know but what i do know is a new crank sensor has been installed which i got from AutoVaux and still nothing! Anymore ideas?

Thanks,
Ross
