Nope. EGR helps with economy. Diesels use EGRs much more than petrols

for economy egr on and working properly!! for power and slightly hotter running engine egr blanked off!!

If it's an Auto then be prepared to change the gearbox within the first year after chipping!

  Well within I'd say.  More like in the 1st week. Autobox on my '94 Elite lasted less than 200 miles.

OK, EGR = exhaust gas recirculation?

Where do I find it, how do I identify it, and how do I block it (Guessing its as simple as a fold and tape job).
