Help Please Car Over Heated
« on: 07 July 2009, 17:05:36 »

Hi Please bear with me as i know nothing about engines

I was driving down the road and someone pulled out on me so had to slam on the breaks for a splt second i didnt come to a stop but herd a strange pop noise,

Steam was escaping from the bonnet area (but only for about 5 seconds) where the water goes and the temp guage was in the red i continued driving cos i couldnt find a safe place to stop!

As i continued to drive the temp guage went slowly down and still in the 90 - 100*c mark but not in red

A friend suggested that it could be an airlock but i cant see where the steam escaped from as all pipes are intact and look ok

Also during this time the fan never came on :(

I have only had the car a week since my last cars head gasket blew up

Thanks

Beau

its a pressureised system which stop the coolent boiling. So if pressure is lost, by a pipe coming off or bursting, taking the cap off or what ever, you will get a rise in temp and a boiling over system. So i wouldnt worry so much about the temp rising, although you dont want the needle in the red, but concentrate on source of the pop/steam. Suspect you have checked the large rad pipes but have you checked the other smaller pipes?

over flow/return(or whatever they are)to the coolent bottle, throttle bodys,2 heater matrix pipes on bulk head, hbv and associated pipes at back of engine under scuttle? The ones i can remember anyway.

It may be a case of topping up any water loss in the bottle and run the car, see if you can see where the water is coming from. Mind you dont get burned obviously, they warm up fairly quickly. Also try playing with the heater/ac pettings if you cant find the source.

Hi thanks for your reply, I cant see any sign of cracks or water leaking im more worried now that the fan isnt coming on,

Is there a fuse or could it be a sensor?

sorry, yes the fan, no experience with that one,
could well be a fuse. Presume its in the fuse box under steering wheel? Anyone?
