hi all the best i can get running about town is about 14 to the gal is this mormal i havent got a heavy right foot get about 23 24 on the open road any help would be magic ps all so its a auto

not too bad to be honest but first things first, give it a bloody good service 

oil and filter
air filter ( vx one only.  halfrauds are crap in comparison )
fuel filter
run it down to about 20 ltr's in the tank then stick a bottle of good injector cleaner in the tank and take it for a "italian tune" up     ie thrash the tinker and blow all the cr*p out of the system 

if yours is a 3 ltr, do the paperclip test and see if there is any fault codes stored

in comparison, mines a 2.5 manual and acording to the mid, im getting 28.3 @ 18 mph 
mine gets a 50 mile blast up the motorway, once a week

Hmmm, my average in my 3.0 auto over the last 2000 miles is 25.1mpg. Thats mostly commuting.  On a decent motorway run at constant motorway speeds (ie, around 75-85mph) I would expect an easy 30+, drop the constant speed down to 70mph, and 35mpg

I have been known to occasionally give it a lot of welly, hence saving my pennies for 4 new tyres again

Make sure your breathers are cleaned out too mate, you would be suprised what an effect that has on MPG

Ive done a service with new plugs ect. put a full bottle of red X in, cleaned everything and belive it or not i'm getting nearly 30 mpg around town and a lot more on a run. is my car normal?
