My key fob wont unlock the car and when I use the key to unlock it the alarm keeps going off, and goes off when I put the key in the ignotion.

So first question is it the battery in the key fob thats dead?

And secondly why does the alarm go off when I use the key to unlock the door? I removed the bonnet switch (FWIW when I had alarm issues)

you need to change the battery mate, dont loose the chip so be carefull doing it.
Your alarm will go of untill you unlock the car with the fob.

what type battery and where can i get it from?

any thing i need to be aware of when replacing it?

The battery is a CR2032, available from stockists of batteries, and I know W.H.Smith sell them for one.

Just make sure you don't do what I did once with one of these and push the battery against the black clip at it's rear, as the battery MUST go UNDER it.

The alarm will go off if you use the key manually in the lock, but once you start the engine it should cease.

just one more thing, how do i get it open? just tried to take the battery out of my spare (faulty) key but decided to ask first before i break something. i noticed it opens at the front, where the buttons are. is this correct?

i say this key is faulty because when i lock it via remote the alarm keeps going off!

That does sound like batteries have gone then .

I have a three button fob, and with mine the main key shaft section comes away after you push a small screwdriver into the little opening on the back of the fob just above the blade.  You then pull apart the two sections of the rest of the key fob, being carefull not to dislodge and lose the chip attached to the side of one of the two sections. The battery can then be carefully removed by lifting on the side opposite the black clip that the battery sits under on that side;)
