Engine light
« on: 15 July 2009, 16:16:57 »

We have just bought a 2000(W) Omega CD Estate manual 2.0lt.
During the few trips we have done, the engine comes on every so often, stays on for a while then goes out.
I have searched and found the normal tricks with diagnostic plug to get the fault codes but as this is a 2000 they do not work. Does the pedal trick work with this year or do I have to bite the bullet and pay VX.
Or do we have someone local who could assist, as I think the cam belt could do with a change as well!

I understood it was only cars up to 1999, as in this thread

Check to see if the engine light bulb has not been pulled out to hide the gearbox fault. it should ccome on when you turn the ign key and go out a few sec after the engine is started. if no light then no bulb. ::)
OOPS just read the post again light comes on now and again. Sorry. must get to spec savers real soon. :o

Well I've had another go with both the paperclip test; connected A and B and turned ignition on, no flashes and the pedal test, still no flashes.
Still the engine comes on every so often and stays on for a while.
Can anyone please tell me why?
The car is a 2000 (W) Omega Estate CD Petrol manual 2.lt and shows nothing wrong on the dashboard information display screen.
